An Endless Fight

The second of three Samba inspired tunes.

The lyrics describe the internal struggle (mine and many others') between a man trying to live well but so aware that no matter how hard he tries, he is flawed by his own sinful nature. It's also reflects on the observation that 'sin' is not a word many of us recognise as valid or relevant any more. 'White lies' are often deemed acceptable in every area of culture and we are encouraged to 'do whatever feels good'; everything is relevant. I can't help thinking the trivialisation of what was once deemed 'wrong' has contributed to a a lowering in moral standard in many cultures like ours.

There once was a time when a lie wasn't black or white
When sin had a name, not a game, there was wrong or right

But oh how the soul can be blinded, binded, trapped inside a hole
We deny it, hide it, circumcise it

Try as I might be the light, there's an endless fight
For the things I wanna do seem so hard to do

And every time I feel that I'm standing tall
