Free From The Nest

from Giving Up The Dream by Ian Peacock

/

about

I got the title for this song and then challenged myself to try something I've never done before; have every single line rhyme with the first ('nest' being the word I tried to rhyme everything with).
I didn't quite manage it but I gave it a good go!

lyrics

They start on the chest,
Drink milk from the breast,
The family are blessed,
This feeling's the best,

How soon do they test,
And learn how to jest,
They make such a mess
On trousers and vest

Soon they'll fly free from the nest,
These memories all that's left

With zeal and with zest
Compete and contest
They hassle and pest
Like difficult guests

You blink and you've missed
All this and the rest
The sun from the east soon sets in the west

Soon they'll fly free from the nest,
These memories all that's left

A lifetime, no less
I've tried to compress this parental quest
It's hard to express
