Sold Down The River

from Still Human by Ian Peacock

/

about

I wrote this after watching one of the many tragic news reports about the thousands of refugees and immigrants who made risky journeys across land and sea to try and reach Europe. Many fled cruel militants, ruled by religious and irreligious ideologies. Many just wanted a better life. Many lost everything they had. Some didn't make it at all. Plenty of smugglers made money out of it. This has to be one of the most historic events of our generation and no-one knows how it will end.

lyrics

Danger on every side
When greed and religion collide
Innocent people will die
Looking for places to hide

I saw you shiver, you lips start to quiver - so long
Stuck in the middle of some place where you don't belong

You take advantage of war
Steeling the land from the poor
Chaos has opened its door
Refugees swimming for shore

I saw you shiver, you lips start to quiver - so long
Stuck in the middle of some place where we don't belong
Paid and delivered a six digit figure - It's wrong
Sold down the river but we'll still be singing a song
