Twenty Four Hours

from Giving Up The Dream by Ian Peacock

/

about

I wrote this song following a terrorist atrocity in France. Little did I know this would be just one of a string of similar horrendous acts committed by people with a twisted ideology. For many, everything changed for the worst in just one day and it reminded me that one person's actions can have such grave consequences. This has always been the case; whether emperors, rulers, presidents, prime ministers, imams, cult leaders, or terrorist groups. 'Every dog has its day' but every 'empire' falls in the end - so bring on tomorrow.

lyrics

The sun doesn't rise, the sun never sets
The world just revolves on a course that's been set
It dances each day with the stars and the moon
The darkness prevails but the light will come soon
In twenty four hours a lot can be done,
A mount can be climbed
A war can be won
In twenty four hours a lot could go wrong
A terrorist raising hell strapped to a bomb

But Rome wasn't built in a day
Every empire won't fall the same way
Every man and his dog has it's day-
Yours is today

There's 24 countries who want the same land
There's 24 million civilians like sand
Who could die in the middle of one leader's whim
They cry out for justice, when will it begin?

But Rome wasn't built in a day
Every empire won't fall the same way
Every man and his dog has it's day-
Yours is today
So bring on tomorrow
