When The Saints Go Marching In

from Still Human by Ian Peacock

/

about

For some reason, when I recorded the samba rhythms which form the foundation of this song, I pictured African Americans working on the rail roads of the deep south, singing work songs and spirituals. That image provided the inspiration for the lyrics, in addition to Jesus' parable about wheat and weeds.

lyrics

Oh Lord Oh, Oh Lord Oh, Sow Lord Sow, Grow Lord Grow....

You've got the law but it's so hard to keep it
You know the truth but it's hard to believe it
So keep running the road you've been given
And keep your eyes on the prize, not the prison

In the soil there's weeds with the wheat
In every heart there's trust and deceite
But don't bow to fear or suspicion
As you sow in tears there's fruition
