Come To Me

from He Crowns The Humble by Ian Peacock

about

Last summer, my wife and I booked four nights in a beautiful, little shepherd’s hut in the tranquil fields of Somerset. We were surrounded by the simple beauty of creation; sparrows in the hedgerows, sheep and cows grazing in the fields, hawks circling over their prey and the awe-inspiring moonlit night sky, full of stars, too numerous to count. It really was breath-taking and a great reminder of our need for a deep rest from the noisy, non-stop hustle and bustle of everyday life.

My thoughts inevitably led back to Jesus’ endearing promise in Matthew 11 that if we come to him, he will give us real rest - rest for our souls. Can there be a more needed offer in our generation? If only we would take it.

lyrics

Come to me when you’re weary and I will give you rest
Lean on me-your load’s heavy and I will make it light

My yoke is easy, my burden is light
Your soul is needy, I’ll make things alright

Come to me with your worries - I know what you need
Learn from me, for I’m lowly, humble, kind and true

My yoke is easy, my burden is light
Your soul is needy, I’ll make things alright
