Goodness Of The Lord

from He Crowns The Humble by Ian Peacock

/

about

Psalm 23 is perhaps the most well-known psalm in the bible and there have been hundreds of songs inspired by it. Well, this is my effort! (incorporating a little of Ezekiel 37’s ‘Valley of dry bones’ for good measure!). Musically, I like the syncopated feel created by the guitar riff, and experimented with the technique of repeating sections several times, each time higher in pitch and more expressive vocally.

lyrics

In the bitterness of life, I find the sweetness and the goodness of the Lord
And no matter how hard the climb, he leads me back to still, still waters
Though my enemies surround I’ll dine, feasting on the richest food and wine
At your table we recline, you and I with joy our cup flows over

In the desert of dry bones, you will breathe your life into my dry bones
In the valley of shadows, you are with me, I will fear no evil
Though the path is narrow, I will take each step and try to follow
In your presence there is no fear, no need to worry for tomorrow

Oh, Shepherd of my soul
