My Soul Finds Rest In You

from He Crowns The Humble by Ian Peacock

/

about

During the lockdown of 2020, I began reading the Old Testament book of Psalms, something I do from time to time. I wasn’t intending to write any music but found myself jamming around, using the composition process to mediate on the words of these ancient prayer-songs.

lyrics

Truly my soul finds rest in God alone
In his salvation I have found a home
Not knowing just how long it will take
I pour my heart in trust and wait
Truly my soul finds rest in God alone

You are my fortress, I will never be shaken
Truly you are my rock, alone my salvation
My soul finds rest in you.

My help, my glory, it’s you I set before me
Your truth, your love - they tell a greater story
One thing you said, there are two things I’ve heard:
That you are strong, with you unfailing love
We are but breath and wealth is overrated
You will reward each person you created
According to the good that we have done
And our response to Jesus, God the son
My help, my glory, it’s you I set before me
Your truth, your love - they tell a greater story
One thing you said, there are two things I’ve heard:
That you are strong, with you unfailing love

You are my fortress, I will never be shaken
Truly you are my rock, alone my salvation
My soul finds rest in you.
