Wholly Yours

from He Crowns The Humble by Ian Peacock

about

It is believed that King David wrote the words of this psalm after he had committed an atrocious act; adultery with a woman called Bathsheba whilst facilitating his crime by sending her husband off to be killed in war. Not many of us will act as wickedly but we are all aware of the selfishness we seem to inherit from an early age (who needs to teach a toddler to say ‘no’ to their parents?!) and the constant battle between our desire to do good and the reality of our attitudes and behaviour. We all need a cleansing of the heart and the forgiveness of a Saviour who sees the very best and the very worst of us.

lyrics

From my mother’s womb, I didn’t have to be taught to say ‘no’
Sin was there in me like a silent disease in my genes
And as I grew, the weeds grew too to choke the fruit within
Then I saw you bring grace and truth and started following

Create in me a clean, clean heart
Renew in me a willing soul
That I might be wholly yours
That I might be wholly yours

How your Spirit comes and shines holy light on my path
And I’m stepping out to walk hand and hand by your side
But every day a war is waged between the old and new
The things I do, I don’t intend, the things I don’t - I do

Create in me a clean, clean heart
Renew in me a willing soul
That I might be wholly yours
That I might be wholly yours

This is my sacrifice, Lord my heart’s contrite - I know you won’t deny
Open my lips, may your praises eclipse every sun, moon and star in my life
Purge me and cleanse me from all my iniquity - washing me whiter than snow
Cause such elation to rise from salvation that everyone with me will know
